NLP Motivations and Behaviors

Neuro-Linguistic Programming – Manipulating One’s Beliefs, Motivations and Behaviors

By

nlp-man-from-web NLP examines our emotions, and asks us to think more carefully about why these emotions are arising. If we feel angry, or upset, happy or sad, it may seem obvious as to why the reason. We then go ahead and try and fix this problem as best we can. The problem is, sometimes we misread our emotional signals, ignore them, or cover up the real reasons behind why we feel that way.

Motivation plays an important part in Neuro-linguistic programming principals. It is certainly the case that people move towards pleasurable experiences, and way from the painful. We, however, are slightly lazy in this regard – short term effects will generally take precedence over the long term. For example, everyone knows that if they work out, then they will ultimately feel better, be stronger, and have more energy. The motivation is however, not necessarily there, as we don’t feel any short term benefits (and even feel short term pain and discomfort). On the other hand, we know that eating a chocolate bar will result in us being unhealthier and perhaps fatter in the future, but the short term gain is too tempting.

Neurons_NLP Neuro-linguistic programming takes the motivation behind our actions very seriously, and one of the main principals of the technique is learning how to take control of motivation. NLP can help one focus on the long term benefits of an action instead of the instant buzz of a short term fix.

Neuro-linguistic programming says that we, as people, begin to build up beliefs about the world in which we live, and we use these beliefs to govern our choices and behavior. Most of the time these follow obvious logic (e.g. fire is hot, don’t put your hand in a fire), but sometimes negative beliefs can be built up (e.g. don’t ask anyone out, because you will always be rejected). These negative beliefs can stem from a single interaction or an event in one’s life that begins to manifest itself and become very prominent in a person’s mind.

NLP is all about breaking these patterns, by giving people the tools to recognize their behavior, their beliefs, their motivations and their fears. Once one is able to see in what ways one’s beliefs may be incorrect or harmful, NLP techniques can help break these negative behaviors, and replace them with productive and useful behaviors.

Enhanced Happiness with Reframing

Reframing with NLP For Enhanced Happiness

by: Adam Eason

I used to work for the Independent National Newspaper in Canary Wharf, London. I can remember in the build up to Christmas, my department was having a large and expensive new computer system installed because the newspaper was being relaunched, it was when Andrew Marr and Rosie Boycott were becoming joint editors, I digress…. The system was being put in just before Christmas, but it was a massive task, with numerous issues & overruns. As Christmas approached, there were still a number of teething problems, which led to stretched relations between the system supplier and the newspaper staff.

At one meeting about the integration of the system, my director had been trying to get more time investment from the installation company, only to be told that their people weren’t going to be available on Christmas day. My director was frustrated and furious, asking “What are you doing that’s more important than sorting out our system!?” Without hesitating, the guy from the installation company said “Delivering Christmas hampers to the elderly.” The impact was immediate; everyone in the room started laughing & my director joined them, realising that he’d perhaps been a bit unreasonable. Everyone knew that the story about the elderly wasn’t true, but that didn’t matter – the statement had changed his perception of the situation, instantly, & he started behaving more reasonably.

Changing the contextual frame:

There was an advertisement for the Guardian newspaper, which showed a set of still photographs arranged in a particular action sequence. The photographs showed a large framed man with very little hair on his head, wearing jeans and boots, running along a pathway with a real purpose.

In the first frame he is running towards an elderly lady; in the second frame, you see him knock her violently into the street; in the third frame you see him make his escape, obviously and seemingly this is another thug terrorising the elderly.

Then, when you turn the page, you are presented with some wider angle shots. In the wide-angle shots, you see the elderly lady casually walking beside a building that has building works being carried out upon it and where a cement mixer is about to topple from a scaffold. An alert pedestrian notices the situation and heroically runs towards the lady, pushing her clear of the building area. A moment later, the cement mixer falls to the ground in the spot where the lady was standing. The initially perceived ‘thug’ has in fact saved her life.

By changing the frame, the creators of the advertisement had changed the context of the man’s actions. Suddenly, what was perceived as typically criminal then became valiant and altruistic. His actions were transformed in a moment as they were reframed. I am sure you know of many other examples of this.

One of the presuppositions of NLP and something that fascinates and tests me, is that every behaviour is useful or valuable in some context. Upon learning and reading about this in the embryonic days of my learning, I did do my best to do the opposite! I wracked my brains for things that I just could not reframe. Of course, I could not do so for long. It’s just a matter of stretching your brain and finding a context that makes it useful; I have not always found this easy. This process is referred to as context reframing.

Every behaviour is useful in the right context:

Now here is a challenge for you. For any behaviour, no matter how frustrating or apparently without use or value, see if you can find a context where it’s useful. Once you find such a context, a subsequent act of presenting the behaviour in the new context is reframing it. If it was originally a behaviour that was treated very seriously or was problematic, you may then also want to think about adding humour or a playfulness in the way it is re-presented;

Firstly, identify a complaint, either about yourself or someone else, a simple structured to begin with, for example; “I’m too [x].” or “She’s too [y].” (Eg. “I’m too impatient”, “He’s too selfish.”, “She’s too messy.”)

Next up, ask yourself “In what contexts would the characteristic being complained about have value and/or usefulness?”

Thirdly, create several answers to this question, and then craft it into a ‘reframe’.

For example:

“I’m too impatient”

Example answer: “I bet you’re quick-thinking in an emergency.”

“She’s too messy”

Example answer “She’d be good to have around if we were trying to make our home look like it had been burgled.” (I don’t like to be too serious!)

“He’s too selfish”

Example answer: “We’ve had so many problems with people not taking care of themselves, it’s often good to make sure you look after yourself to be in a better position to help others .”

Now, I know these are a bit lame with some of my own tongue in cheek-iness added, but they don’t have to be that useful at this stage; it’s more important that you give yourself the freedom to be creative so your brain gets the pattern of what you’re doing. What’s more, when you have to do that and develop better reframes for yourself, your learning is far more comprehensive than if I were to spoon feed you responses to regurgitate.

The next step is to come up with reframes for any complaints that you (or others) have about yourself. This can be a lot of fun if you do it with someone else. (ie. you say “I’m too [x]” then they generate reframes.)

By the way, the example of “I’m too sexy” as in the 90s Pop BandRight Said Fred” chart topping hit is not really appropriate ;-)

When reframing something someone says, rapport is important (otherwise reframing can seem like a very focused & deliberate attempt to annoy someone.) If you present someone with a reframe, ensure that you have a good level of rapport with them, best start with friends and/or family (assuming that you have rapport with them!)

Fifth, once you get the hang of it, start looking for opportunities to use context reframing each day, starting with the less challenging ones.

In a business context for example, one of the most powerful ways to use reframing is when people have objections (whether you’re selling a product, a service, an idea, or yourself.) reframing is a gentle method of working with someone as opposed to having to sell which many people are uncomfortable with. When you reframe someone’s objection, you can remove or alter its power. I once read the objection “I’m worried – What if I train my staff and then they leave.” The response: “Even worse, what if you don’t train your people and they stay.”

When you discover and create a way to change the context of someone’s objection, it alters the way they perceive it. This has been know to be an extremely effective way to overcome objections entirely.

Finally, for these initial steps of reframing, write a list the objections you get most frequently in business or complaints made in your life and generate a number of context reframes for each one. Then, look forward with a sense of anticipation to the next time someone offers that objection. Please bear in mind that you are opening up options here, not covering things up, if a particular problematic issue is occurring, sometimes it may not be appropriate to just reframe.

Both my Grandparents on my fathers side were 80 two years ago and we had celebratory family gatherings. As I walked into one of the celebrations I asked the standard question “So, what’s it like waking up on your 80th birthday, Grandad?” To which he replied “Better than not waking up on your 80′th birthday”.

Now, I’d like to start playing with ‘content reframing.’ If a footballer kicks the ball into his team’s net, it’s called an “own goal”, but if a soldier accidentally shoots one of his fellow soldiers, it’s called “friendly fire” (Sounds kind of cuddly, doesn’t it? But you would not want any coming your way.) George Orwell’s 1984 had plenty of examples of content reframing (eg. the ministries of peace & truth) that live on today in many forms (a peacekeeper missile, anyone?)

So, content reframing involves changing the meaning of something.

Right, to develop this further, follow this procedure; identify a complaint a complaint or issue with the structure “I feel [X] when [Y] happens.” (Eg. “I feel angry when he does not help” or “I feel frustrated when I make mistakes”)

Next, ask yourself “What else could this (Y) mean?”, “What else could this (X) mean?” or “What else could this situation mean?”, or ask “How can this (X) or (Y) be interpreted?

Then, you can come up with several answers to these, and then create a ‘reframe’.

For example: “I feel upset when I see the mess these kids have made”

Example answer: “It’s good that they can be ‘in the moment’ without worrying about a few things being out of place.”

Alternate example answer: “A little untidiness is a small price to pay for happy children.”

Another example answer: “The fact that it’s messy means they’re expressing their creativity.”

Obviously, if you were to offer these reframes to someone who is annoyed or frustrated, I would suggest that it would be a good idea to get in rapport with them first and of course to select your words carefully.

As with my previous examples, these aren’t the most amazing reframes in the world, but they don’t have to be that useful at this stage; it’s more important that you give yourself the freedom to be creative so your brain gets the pattern of what you’re doing.

Now, you can come up with reframes for any complaints or issues that you can identify for yourself or others. This can be a lot of fun (honestly!) if you take turns doing it with someone else. (ie. you say “I feel [X] when [Y] happens” then they generate reframes.)

Then, once you get the hang of it, start looking for opportunities to use content reframing each day. For spreading good feelings around and helping people to lessen the easy natural way that they can sometimes get “bogged down” in the trivial. Depends on what you consider trivial though, be careful and thoughtful.

Once again, in a business sense, content reframing is also very powerful for dealing with objections of all sorts. For example, a reframe I sometimes use when someone objects to the price of consulting with me (I am sooooo expensive!) is to respond with something along the lines of:

“If you are after a cheap consultant or therapist, then you are right, I am not for you. If however, you want to invest in your future then maybe I am. If your child needed a serious operation, would you look for the cheapest surgeon? Then why look for the cheapest way to make changes in your life that are important enough to seek help with?”

Again, I do have my tongue planted in my cheek as I write that riposte, however, I am sure you see where I am coming from here.

Then finally, list the objections you get most frequently & generate a number of content reframes for each one. Then, look forward with a sense of anticipation to the next time someone offers that objection. Remember to keep rapport with people when doing this! Or in jargon-free speak, relate, empathise, connect, get on with.

Good luck with your reframing and creating more harmony.

Who Are The Illuminati?

By Richard Stone

“A loose affiliation of millionaires and billionaires” (Paul Simon).

“The world is governed by far different personages from what is imagined by those who are not behind the scenes” (Benjamin Disraeli).

“Give me control over a nation’s currency, and I care not who makes the laws” (Mayer Rothschild).

Conspiracy theory is the theory that most of the world is secretly governed by a small group of men who operate behind the scenes. Conspiracy theory is now an accepted turn of phrase but sometimes one hears the expression, sometimes whispered rather than spoken. “The Illuminati”.

What does this mean? Who are the Illuminati? They are, in essence, a cartel of international bankers and industrialists based in Western Europe and North America. The names of certain families persist over long periods of time. Some of the most important names are Rothschild, Rockefeller, Morgan, Lazard, Warburg, Schroder and Schiff.

The pivotal family is probably the house of Rothschild, the descendants of Mayer Rothschild (1743 – 1812) of Frankfurt. The male descendants of this family, for at least two generations, generally married first cousins or even nieces. The family established banking institutions in Vienna, London, Naples and Paris as well as Frankfurt. Ever since the middle ages, these families have been building their power by lending money at rates of interest to the monarchies and governments of Europe who were forever in debt, particularly in times of war. Sooner than tax the population to raise funds, always an unpopular measure, they usually preferred to borrow money from the money-lenders. This was the birth of the concept “the national debt.” The countries of the world are forever in debt but where there is a debtor there is a creditor – who is this money owed to? It is owed to this coterie of international bankers.

By the nineteenth century the power of the Rothschild family was immense. They increased their wealth with great cunning and cleverness, while maintaining a low public profile. A notable example of their methods was their exploitation of the battle of Waterloo. The Rothschilds had spies watching the course of the battle and as soon as became evident that Wellington had won, a Rothschild agent traveled at maximum speed to London, arriving hours before Wellington’s own messenger. Rothschild received the messenger and began conspicuously selling his stocks. The whole stock exchange assumed that Wellington had lost and Napoleon had won so everybody started selling, at this point, other Rothschild agents bought up huge stocks at give-away prices. Thus an already massive fortune was massively increased.

The Rockefeller family may be equally important. The pivotal figure in this family was J.D.Rockefeller, who made his fortune out of Standard Oil or Esso in Ohio and Pennsylvania. He also controlled the railroads. When rival road transport systems were established he attempted to block them by parking his trains across the roads at level crossings. His basic business technique was the elimination of competitors at all costs, followed by the establishment of a monopoly, followed by profit taking. He rapidly gained a name for huge wealth, secrecy and hard and dirty business practice. In his later years he had a harsh and gaunt appearance, so to counter his bad “public image” JD more or less invented the PR industry. He had short films of himself made, calculated to charm the public, himself playing golf with a pretty little child for instance. This film was shown on TV recently. It has a rather false and amateurish air but was very effective with the public of the day.

The Rockerfellers currently have controlling interests in Exxon (the world’s biggest company) and the Chase Manhattan Bank, which turns over trillions of dollars a week. With so many billions in their hands already, what does more money mean? Obviously it means more power and more control over other human beings, but to what end and in whose name?

Apparently in the name of Lucifer, the fallen angel also known as the bringer of light, hence the name “Illuminati”, which means “the enlightened ones”. Lucifer is also known for the characteristics of pride, deception and impermanence. The illuminati were apparently founded in Bavaria in 1770 by one Adam Weisshaupt, a student of the Jewish philosopher Mendelsohn, and backed by the Rothschild family. The society has always been based on the lodges of Freemasonry, which was taken over at the highest levels during the course of the eighteenth century by agents of the Illuminati. Freemasonry is a very secretive institution, to the extent that members at one level do not know what members at another level are doing. Hence it is an organisation which is full of bonhomie and good deeds at the lower and middle levels, while its motives and deeds at the highest levels veer towards the dark side.

Both Freemasonry and Judaism have strong roots in the ancient Egyptian systems of religious belief, and it was this very similarity which attracted the illuminati to Freemasonry, for most of them were Jewish. It is a source of controversy today to speculate whether or not they are still predominantly Jewish. No unfair racism intended – they either are or they aren’t. Certainly there is much evidence to suggest that they are not, George Bush for instance, a prominent illuminati figure and obviously not Jewish.

The all seeing eye on the U.S. Dollar Bill

The United States of America is more or less a creation of Freemasonry. The symbol of Freemasonry was placed on the cornerstone of the Whitehouse, while the assembled Freemasons lodges stood and watched the ceremony. The famous all-seeing eye in the pyramid appears on the one dollar bill. It is one of the main symbols of Freemasonry. This bill also bears the inscription, in Latin, “1776, the year of inception of a new world order”. If one joins the dots formed by the stars of the thirteen original states one obtains an exact Star of David.

The goal of the IlIuminati is total control of the world. The only nations, which are holding out against their power, are some Islamic nations and China but this resistance is limited because the Illuminati have crushing economic power.

There are certain methods of subjugation and control which are indispensable to this power. The first is, of course, complete control over all financial systems, all borrowing and lending. All banks, all building societies, all insurance companies have to be under their control. At the lowest level even the smallest bank will be forced to toe the line. At the highest level the World Bank decides the fate of countries. It is an interesting and amazing fact that both the Federal Reserve Bank and the Bank of England are controlled by these Illuminati dynasties, in spite of the names of these banks, which suggest that they are run for public benefit. It is said that both Abraham Lincoln and John Kennedy wanted to change this system.

The second essential component is control of the media. It is controlled through business fashion. If the board meeting, or the management meeting, or the sales meeting, or the training meeting suggests that facts should be presented in a certain way, who is going to present them differently? There is an implied threat to one’s job and one’s career. Few people would gladly face demotion, retrenchment or the dole and most people are so ambitious they will do nearly anything “reasonable” to court favour with their superiors. This is how business is controlled and the media is the most important part of business, for it controls people’s minds. People are very suggestible and often lend more credence to what they see on “the box” than to what happens on their own street. The Illuminati know this and use this suggestibility factor to the full. Lenin’s key move during the Russian revolution was the capture of the radio station.

The third factor in the control system is the universities, and through them the whole education system. Particular effort is put into the schools of sociology, politics, economics and education, hence “liberal” systems of education which are often degenerate and even violent. Their men are inserted into the universities through the power of funding by big business. They then spread their influence downwards through tertiary to secondary and primary education.

The fourth factor is the enormous influence wielded by two similar organisations, The Council of Foreign Relations in the USA and the Royal Institute of International Affairs in England. These institutions are schools for statesmen, Illuminati statesmen. They are the stamping grounds of men such as Henry Kissinger, Zbigniew Brzezinksi and Lord Carrington. These two “think tanks” have a crucial influence on all US and British governments, no matter which party is “in power”. The statesmen produced by these institutions can and do decide the fate of nations. The tax-exempt foundations are also instruments of Illuminati power. The Ford foundation and the Rockefeller foundation are two prominent examples of this type of “charitable” institution. They were heavily involved in supporting various communist powers when the cold war was at its height. Communism versus capitalism arms race = more money and power for the Illuminati. So these are some of the structures through which the Illuminati work but what methods do they use?

Pitting one side against the other, using a theory devised by Hegel, which is: Thesis versus antitheses – synthesis.

Every force tends to have an opposite counterforce. The conflict between the two results in a new situation, the synthesis. The illuminati make it their business to be the synthesis. Thus no problem situation is ever “nipped in the bud” it is rather fostered and used, just as the Soviet Union was fostered and used.

The insertion of immigrant groups into countries is a variation of this divide and rule process. Each group can be played off against the other.

“Double talk” and “double think”. George Orwell knew instinctively what was going on when he invented these two expressions:

I categorically deny = it will happen a bit later.

Peace = war by another means.

To say one thing and do another is fundamental to Illuminati practice. They believe that the public will accept these lies through laziness and wishful thinking. Unfortunately they are usually correct.

“Keep them busy busy busy, back on the farm with the other animals.” We are kept so busy with business (or busyness) that we do not understand or participate in the decisions and events that will crucially affect our future.

When a real power move is made it is usually done secretly and suddenly often with the pretence that nothing has happened. There is preparation for opposition, but conflict is often not necessary as most people have been trained to be so passive that they will probably not create an effective opposition.

Use of front men in important positions. These front men have the characteristic of “servile obedience”, probably because of a blot or blots on their character which they are anxious to conceal. Most of the Presidents of the USA fall into this category. The current situation springs to mind. Behind the opponent stands the man with real power, who has long been groomed for this position. Men like Henry Kissinger, Zbigniew Brzezinski and George Bush are in this category.

The assassination of opposing leaders as quietly and as secretly as possible, so as to simulate a natural death. If this is not possible due to time constraints or other limited circumstances, surrogates are used and the lines of suspicion are covered by deception, false accusation and if necessary, multiple assassinations. Induced heart attacks, fake motor accidents and apparent suicides are also favoured methods of assassination.

Social engineering. An easily manipulated rabble is what is required. Mixed population groups with weak morals, weak traditions, low educational standards and weak group willpower are the aim. Those with special aptitudes can be taken out and trained to serve the illuminati for technical purposes, security purposes or as part of the propaganda apparatus. The middle class will become surplus to requirements and will be reduced to relative poverty.

Mockery and submission of the manners and morals of societies which show any resistance. Control of the media, the fashion industries and the education systems are essential components in this strategy. “Free love”, the cult of youth, mockery of the Christian and Muslim faiths also fall into this category. “I don’t give a rats ass about Jesus Christ” is one recent masterpiece from one of Hollywood’s biggest starts. He probably didn’t realise what he was saying, which makes him a “useful idiot’. A “useful idiot” is much more effective than a conscious supporter. By these means of subversion societies and nations are conquered from within and open battle is usually not necessary.

The conduct of unrelenting economic warfare. This is the real war and continues even while the bombs are falling and the bullets are flying. The important part is the control of the enemy’s economy after the conflict. The recent economic crash in the far-eastern countries is in reality an assertion of the Illuminati’s economic power, an expression of economic dominance. The Illuminati now control 10-15% of the Japanese economy. This is public knowledge, that is what has been bought at bargain prices. In reality they probably control much more.

Control and exploitation of the standards of public health. The sale of prescription drugs is a huge business generating mega profits. Medical operations and treatments can also be very profitable to big business. These extreme treatments have their place but are over-used for the sake of profit.

In fact big business, particularly the big drug companies, have a vested interest in the ill health of the population. These companies, working through the US Food and Drug Administration, have tried to suppress the health food industry. In this they have largely failed but now the game is to own it and control it so that health foods can only be afforded by the elite.

Argument through defamation of character. The factual debate is ignored while characters are defamed. This is usually a very effective technique as many human beings are very suggestible and seem reluctant to use their reasoning abilities. Thus a “smear campaign” can easily draw attention away from the facts.

To conclude, it is growing increasingly evident that a world government is developing, and many would say that it is probably no bad thing, but few have asked for what purpose this “new world order” is created. Nor have they asked themselves what the consequences will be. These consequences (or some of them) will probably be as follows:

• Increasing profits for big business, increasing poverty for the middle class (who they despise). A rapid decline in moral standards and the promotion of social decay.

• Transience. Jobs that don’t last; neighbourhoods that don’t last.

• Increasing levels of crime and violence.

• Decline and demise of public services; replacement by private enterprise – good service for the few who can afford it.

• Ongoing ill health for the bulk of the population because of stress; poor quality foods; food additives; genetic engineering; pollution and drugs. There may be good health for those who can afford it – only the rich and well informed.

• The gradual phasing out of national governments, which will have powers more like the regional governments of today.

• The formation of several conglomerations like the United States.

In time a world leader will be announced, a real one this time. A pity he will have a cynical contempt for the most of humanity. Do we deserve it?

The Unaskable Question

Proof Of The Afterlife?

by: Bob Daulby

Almost 20 years ago, I began researching the Ouija Board to see if there was any validity or proof that could be gained from it that would benefit us all. At the time, I have to say that, like most people, I too had been deeply influenced by rumours that such devices are evil, not to be trusted or, at the very least, questionable. However, through a previous study of hypnosis, I also became very aware of self-delusion, self-fulfilling prophecies, belief and fantasy so well that it became an easy task for me to opt for the middle ground. Thus, for me to approach this tool of spirit communication with an open mind – the mind between belief and non-belief – wasn’t a problem. And so, in the winter months of 1985, with eight people around my first board, my research began.

It was after a ponderous and shaky start that, after a lot of patience, three people – already passed over, one after the other, dropped in to speak to me. And although they provided me with enough proof of their existence to sink a battleship yet, it still wasn’t quite enough for my mind to accept that I was actually speaking to real people from beyond the grave. However, with ‘Debbie’ all of this was to change.

“Is there anyone there?” I asked. On my old board – now ‘The Spirit Contact Board©’ (which is far superior) – the usual responses were slow in forming. But, as I say, with a little patience, it soon made sense when the board replied:

“DEBBIE”

“Hello Debbie.” I said, “What can we do for you?”

“PASS THE DOPE”

“Pardon? Did you say ‘pass the dope’ Debbie?

“YES”

“What dope are you talking about? We don’t have dope in this house.”

At the time, Marijuana was very much outlawed and, with two young children in the house, such chemicals – and the sure problems with Police that were bound to follow, was not permitted anywhere near my family or my home. However, the reply to this remark was:

“YOU DO”

Even if this were to be true, in my mind, there could be only one reason that there was any kind of outlawed drug in my home back then and that would have to be that someone around the table had got some and hadn’t said so. Other than this, there was no chance of their being any kind of this type of drug in the home. So I asked,

“Ok. You say that there is dope in this house. Could you tell me where it is please?”

“UNDER CHAIR”

“Oh right. ‘Under a chair’. I’m sorry Debbie but I think you’re mistaken. There isn’t any dope under any chair in this house Ok?”

“THERE IS”

I then asked everyone around the table if they had any dope and that, if they had then to please own up and put an end to this. But there was no need to ask for they all felt the same as me about it.

“As you can see Debbie – at least, I think you can – no one here has got any dope. So, if they haven’t got any then, how can there be any under any chair? Are you sure you’re not pulling my leg?”

“NO. DOPE UNDER CHAIR”

I was getting rather bored with this so I sighed and asked, “Ok. Which chair is it under please?”

Although I have mentioned that there were eight people around that board that night yet I must add that as they were sat yet I was stood at the back taking notes and that, my finger was never on that glass.

“CHAIR NEAR YOU”

“You mean this one on my left?”

“YES”

“You’re joking! There’s no way that there’s any dope under that chair. No one sits in it but me Debbie and I don’t use the stuff. Ok. Don’t bother answering that. Let me check and prove you wrong Ok?”

OK. TRY”

“I will!”

With that, I put down my notes and moved the chair.

Now, in being a lazy couple back then, neither my wife nor myself ever vacuumed under either chair. Like a lot of people, we hovered around them to then get on with other things – like watching TV etc. So, when I moved the chair and, much to our embarrassment, there was almost enough dust and debris there that could have coated a bald Bear! In any event, in ignoring our red faces, I bent down and started to sift through it to show Debbie – and everyone else – that there wasn’t a hope of her being right.

But, to my utter incredulity, she was!

When I had finished sifting through all the rubbish, right there, in my fingertips was a small rolled up piece of silver paper. Inside this foil was a small piece of dope that must have been there I don’t know how long.

“How on EARTH did you know this Debbie!?” I exclaimed.

“FELL OUT OF (A name I can’t mention) POCKET”

“Well I never! I can’t believe my own eyes here! Look everyone! Tell me this isn’t dope!” But, when they all looked at it, they all recognised that it indeed was. “Unbelievable! How could this have anything to do with any ideomotor effect? How could any of us have ever thought of pushing the glass around – even unconsciously – to spell out something so very far fetched as this? Dope? In MY house? Never!” To make matters even more incredulous, the person she mentioned hadn’t set foot in my house for over twelve months prior to this communication!

Was this proof enough for us? Of course it was. But the story didn’t end there for; we had yet even more shocking news – and proof – to come from Debbie that continued on until the early hours of that night. Further information revealed… But wait; there is something you need to know first.

At that time, I was in the habit of going around to a friend’s house on Tuesday nights for what we called ‘Computer Nights’. It was back in the Commodore 64 days before most of us even thought of owning a PC. As far as the general public was concerned, such masterful multi-tasking machines had yet to be invented. Now, I don’t know if you’re the same as me but, for me, although I may make a friend yet, unless the topic is brought up, rarely will I come to know if he or she has any brothers or sisters. And, with him being the same with me, he didn’t know this about me either. However, unbeknownst to my friend, I had some shocking news in wait that would turn him right over when I saw him the following Tuesday.

It was as we were sat playing that I brought up the subject of family. After I had told him of mine, I asked him about his to which his reply was that he had had two sisters.

“What do you mean by ‘had’ two sisters ‘D’?

“Oh? Didn’t you know? I lost one a few years back.”

“Really? Ok. Can I try something with you?”

“What’s that?”

“You know that I didn’t know you had any family until I asked you didn’t you?”

“Yeah? So what?”

OK. Supposing I fill in the gaps for you? If I do that then, will you believe me that my board works and that the afterlife really does exist after all?”

He laughed and said, “You can try if you like but it won’t do you any good.”

“Oh don’t let that worry you. Ok. Let’s start at the beginning. You haven’t told me yet but I’m going to tell you that the sister you had, was named ‘Debbie’. Is that right?”

He was drinking from a can at the time and nearly spilled the lot when, ashen-faced, he turned to me and yelled, “How did you know that!?”

“Let me finish Ok? I’m right aren’t I? So, let me think now. How did she die? Well, I’ll tell you. She was hitching a ride to London in which she managed to hitch a ride from a truck driver. Since the truck driver didn’t get his wicked way, he threw her out of his truck. As you and I now both know, like your older sister Helen – who is still with us – Debbie liked her drugs didn’t she? She liked Heroin. So, when the truck driver threw her out, he had no idea that she was as high as a kite. Anyway, he was in such a temper about not getting his way that he stopped the truck immediately. Without even thinking about it, he had inadvertently thrown her out on the fast lane. Since Debbie wasn’t at all sober, she wondered around that lane not knowing what she was doing. Moments later, a fast car came and drove over her killing her outright. When she died, Debbie was 18. Is there anything I’ve said ‘D’ that was wrong?”

My friend was at a complete loss as to what to say or do. He didn’t say a word to me for over an hour and was at a complete loss for words. By the look on his face, I knew that everything I had just said was true and that no detail was wrong. In any event, when he did manage to gain control of himself, he verified every word.

Two weeks later, in knowing I was still up, he phoned me at two in the morning and he was crying. When I asked him what the matter was (he doesn’t cry) it took him everything to tell me that, since our conversation, he had been overcome with the loss of Debbie. He went on to add that, when she had been so tragically killed like this, his whole family, parents and all, had all but blocked it from their minds. Although they had a funeral for her and all had turned up yet, for them, such a thing hadn’t really happened. They told themselves that, since Debbie always hitched everywhere that, this is where she is ‘out there’ somewhere, still alive and having too much fun to come home. At that point, he begged me to drive him to her grave.

When we eventually found the graveyard in the dead of night in a small village nearby, it was dark, cold and very foggy. For over an hour and, with lighters in hand, he and I searched amongst the gravestones for where she could be. When we found her, he threw himself on her grave, held her headstone and sobbed his heart out.

“I loved you Debbie. I’m sorry I wasn’t much of a brother to you. But I loved you. I’m sorry. So sorry… I’m so sorry for everything…”

As he cried and released his obvious deep remorse and, although I didn’t view myself as being particularly psychic at the time yet, I swear I could feel Debbie holding him very tightly indeed as she cried along with him.

It was beautiful.

And, after such a good start that continued for the next 20 years, how many more adventures like this do you think I’ve had? How much more proof was given in that time. So much.
