When Things Happen Without Reason

by: Selena Richardson

Sometimes things happen in life for apparently no reason at all. You think that there isn’t any reason for something to happen until after the fact when that something has changed your life or pointed you into a new direction.

Two seemingly totally opposite things can happen to you one day but they have a certain affect on you. Let’s say you get this idea to do something, like read a certain book you keep putting off. The idea pops in and out of your head and you dismiss it. The usual ‘I’ll do it later’ routine.

During the day while working, someone casually mentions that book, talking about how much it helped them in their situation and so on and so on. You dismiss it again because of course you’ll read it at another time.

A few days later, you’re at a doctor’s appointment and you’re flipping through a magazine. You see a review for the same book. By now you should be thinking either you’re crazy or somebody’s trying to give you a big hint.

That’s the point when you should take the hint and read the book. That’s how life works. Intuition hits – you get an inspiration or an idea to do something and you get bombarded left and right with all of these situations that don’t seem like they have any similarity. Until you take a closer look and then you see. If you look hard enough at each situation it’s like putting the pieces in a jigsaw puzzle. If you fit each piece in the right place you finally get the picture.

Let’s say that you want to buy a computer program. It’s a really good program that you need to help run your business. The only problem is that it costs $200 and you don’t have that money right now to pay for it. So you put it on your to do list for a couple months down the road when you can fit it in your budget.

You go through your day to day routine and guess what? You get an email from a discussion list answering someone else’s question about the same program. As you read it you realize that it’s from the maker of the program. And here’s the kicker – there’s a new special 30 day trial download of the program.

So you think coincidence. I say not! You go to the website to download the program and it’s a 60 day trial instead of 30 days. Now you’re probably dumbfounded by now because you just told yourself that morning you would have to wait a couple months to buy it. Except now you can use the program for free for a couple of months and then buy it. Now if you still aren’t convinced of synchronistic events then let me say this – every single thing happens for a reason.

Look back on some of your past experiences in life. I am sure that there were several times where things happened to you for no apparent reason at all. These events either led to other events or were major turning points in your life that didn’t match up anywhere else. They didn’t seem to fit in to what you were doing at the time. But looking back, they fit in perfectly. It’s just that you couldn’t see it at the time.

When things happen without any obvious reason, remember that there’s something you need to pay attention to. There’s always a reason, it’s just that you can’t see it while it’s happening. There’s an unseen force that’s always pointing you in the right direction whether you notice it or not. And those unreal experiences, those strange synchronicities – things happening by ‘chance’ are usually a push in the direction you want (or didn’t know you wanted) to go. Just follow the flow and say thanks – whether it’s a computer program that you get to try out for free or it’s a book you’ve been putting off reading.

Choosing Peace

A Look In The Mirror

by: Selena Richardson

That’s all it takes to change the world. Take a long hard look in the mirror and really notice who you are.

We’re all screaming for peace right now – not just world peace – but peace in our cities, in our workplaces, in our homes and in our minds. There has to be a better way to end this madness.

We need a new way of doing things. Yet we seem to be stuck in outdated modes of thought that have not been working. For if they did, we wouldn’t be in the predicaments we are in now. The past will keep repeating itself until we make a conscious choice to go in a new direction.

Going in a new direction begins inside of you, of me, and of us as individuals. Until we change as individuals, only then can the world change.

One of my favorite quotes is from Mahatma Gandhi – ‘You must be the change you want to see in the world.’ So to have world peace we have to look in the mirror. Take a look and try to find the peace you’re searching for in your heart.

If you can’t find it ask yourself why. It’s not missing – it’s been there with you all along waiting for you to begin your search within. Peace isn’t hard to find at all. You just have to dig from underneath all of the rubble – fear and anger. Once you push the fear and anger to the side peace will be in plain view.

When you find the peace in your heart you start to exude it. It becomes infectious. Joy soon follows and a sense of calm is not too far behind. All of this from one good look in the mirror. One hard look at who you really are. That’s all it takes to get the ball rolling.

And it’s easy to pass it on. Remind your loved ones to find their peace within. They’ll know it can be done because they would have seen the transformation in you. Be a walking example of peace and watch how it spreads.

When others come to you full of fear and anger remember the peace within yourself and gently remind them that no matter how bad it gets it will eventually work itself out for the best.

We get what we dwell upon so if we keep our thoughts based on fear and anger that’s what we’ll continue to get. Instead let’s focus on peace – peace within ourselves and let these thoughts multiply. Remember, be the change you want to see – so be peaceful within your heart and watch your world begin to mirror that.

Choosing To Be Happy

Choose To Be Happy

by: Selena Richardson

What if I told you that you have the ability to decide if you are happy or not. You would probably say that I’m crazy. 1. I’m not crazy and 2. Happiness is a choice.

You can’t depend on someone else to make you happy. That is a lesson I learned early on in my marriage. I realized that I couldn’t rely on my husband as my source of happiness. I learned that my happiness depended on me and not my husband’s actions. I learned that you have to choose to be happy.

You can choose your emotions. True happiness comes from within, it can’t be forced by outside forces. So how do you choose happiness? The same away you choose to smile or choose to wear a certain outfit. You choose it because that’s what you want to experience in your life.

You want to buy a new pair of shoes so you choose a pair that you like and feels good. You wouldn’t buy a pair of shoes that you don’t like or that don’t fit well, right? So why do we keep choosing emotions and feelings that don’t make us feel good?

Well most people don’t realize that you can choose feeling happy over feeling angry or upset about something. It’s not wrong to feel angry or upset but dwelling on it and letting the anger simmer for too long can have bad results.

Choosing to be happy after you realize your anger has shown up (or even choosing to be calm) can be beneficial. You end up acknowledging your anger and moving on instead of harboring those emotions until there’s a flare up. We choose our feelings, no one can do that for us. If we let others get to us, influence our emotions – we are giving them power over us. When others cause us anger or pain, we are giving them our power.

What about those who irritate us or make us mad? We have the power of choice but most times we react out of anger. Instead of taking a mental time out and knowing that what that person said is about them we unconsciously choose to react. The reaction is usually out of anger or fear. It’s a re-action, not an action.

How do we stop this behavior? We need to keep our feelings in check and not react automatically to what is thrown at us. We need to think our actions out instead of just reacting to what someone says or does. Reacting is responding to someone else’s actions. What we need to do is act on our own accord and not let the actions of others influence us. By doing that we stay conscious of our own thoughts and feelings and not let what others do to us affect our moods.

Remember that we can always choose happiness. At first it will be difficult to just switch your thoughts and feelings from anger, self-doubt, or fear to joy and happiness. But it is only a thought away. Don’t dwell on what happens to you unnecessarily but realize what is causing you to feel that way. Realize that thoughts, feelings and emotions can change. Then move on and choose to be happy.
