The Importance of Believing In Yourself

by: Catherine Trebble

One of the most important things you can do is to believe in yourself. This is especially true when it comes to pursuing a new career. You really can be successful, but if you don’t believe you can, then unfortunately you are right. The converse of that is true too, if you really believe you can, you’re right too.

Your abilities belong to you and you have total control over your success. Don’t worry about what others think. All that really matters is what you think and believe about yourself. So believe that you can do whatever it is you set out to do. When you take action and believe in your heart that you will be successful, you will be.

With every new path there can be fear and trepidation. But those same emotions can be turned into a sense of exploration and excitement. If you are going to make some changes in your life, then try to look at them as a new lease on life. By believing you can achieve and change your future, you can stay grounded in the present. You can remain positive knowing that your plan will eventually bear fruit, even if the going gets tough or it takes a bit more time than you had planned. The fact is that just putting one foot in front of the other in a directed effort will eventually lead you straight to your goal.

The key is to be confident and believe in what you want to do and then just go for it! If you need to take some classes to work where you want to work, then do it. It doesn’t matter how old you are. You can make a career change anytime and under any circumstances. It will take commitment and a little hard work, but it can be done. I’m proof of it!

Rest assured that if you are unhappy in your current career path, you can make a change and live the life you’ve always wanted to live. Yes, it’s hard and, yes, it takes a brave soul to change a whole way of life. But in the long run, it’s well worth it!

You have control over your life. No matter if you set out to make a career change or stay where you are and just work on improving your current job situation, you are the driver of your life. If you are unhappy in your job but right now is not the best time to make a change, at least take the time to plan for a change in your future. You deserve to be happy no matter what you do in life. But the only person that can really make that happen is you.

Everyone is capable of succeeding-you just need to believe in yourself and keep moving forward with your plan.

You Are Never Too Old to Change Your Career

by: Catherine Trebble

You may find that what you really want to do in life requires a certain degree or license-something you don’t currently have. So what do you do?

Why not go back to school?

“But…but…but…,” you might be saying, “I’m in my late 40s! It would take me until I’m 52 to get the degree I need!” Yes-and your point is?

If you are someone who tells yourself that you are too old to go back to school, look at it this way-you can either be 52 years old with a degree or 52 years old without a degree!

The point is that no matter what age you will be when you finally obtain the education you need, you are going to be that age one day anyway, so why not be that age with the education you want or need? Especially if it will help you to move into the career of your dreams!

To share my own personal story with you, I didn’t start college until I was in my late 20s. I was worried I was going to be surrounded by students fresh out of high school. But you know what? I was wrong! I was never the oldest person in any of my classes. There was always a good mix of different ages, from students who were in their teens all the way up to men and women in their 50s. In fact, in my very first basic college course, English 101, there was a woman in my class who was in her mid 50s. It was her very first college course as well. I became friends with her and she shared with me that she had always wanted to be a nurse. She worked at a hospital as a clerk for many years, but her dream was to help care for patients. I admired her for that, as did many of the other students. During my third year of attending classes, I ran into her one day and she told me it was her last semester at school, as she had finished all the courses she needed and was transferring to another school that had accepted her into their nursing program. If only you could have seen all the joy and pride in her face during that moment!

During my years of college, there were many older people from all walks of life. I never thought of them as being too old, and neither did the younger students. In fact, it was these older students that I admired the most and they were the ones that the youngest students in the class would look to as a positive role model. There were never any negative comments or teasing of the older students in the class. In fact, I think it was the older students who were usually the most popular and they received a lot of respect and admiration for pursuing an education at their age.

Remember-you are never too old to go back to school. Yes, it will take you some time to earn a degree, but the time spent will be well worth it. You have to do something between now and so many years from now anyway. So if it’s a degree you need, spend those years earning one!

How to Choose the Right Career For You

by: Catherine Trebble

Whether you are newly graduated from high school or currently employed in a job you hate and want something else, choosing a career is a very important decision. This writer knows especially well about this and it’s a decision that shouldn’t be made lightly and simply isn’t easy to do in the first place.

When you’re young, you have a myriad of choices ahead of you, but really do at any age. It doesn’t matter how young or old you are, you can still make a career choice that can make you happy and enhance your life even if it’s a drastic one!

With all the different occupations to choose from, where do you even begin to find something that you will be good at doing and love doing as well? The truth is, all you have to do is look at yourself and inside yourself to see where you should be. Plenty of people have made career changes late in life.

Grandma Moses began her painting career well into her 80′s and because one of the most well-respected painters in the art world. Many professional athletes HAVE to make career choices once they are no longer able to play sports at a level they always have been able to. Stay-at-home moms with children in school suddenly find themselves wanting to do something worthwhile instead of staying home all day. Some of them have even built hobbies into multi-millionaire businesses!

It happens all the time and for a variety of different reasons. The world’s business economy is volatile at the very least and many companies have to lay off workers or close the business entirely. That leaves displaced worked facing career moves they hadn’t anticipated. In fact, the reality is that the average person will make 2 to 5 career changes between the time they enter the work force to the time when they retire.

Many colleges have displaced workers programs and adult education programs that can ease people into a career change. Sometimes, however, the best way to make a career change is just to jump in and do it.

Making a career change is a scary step. At least it can be! But when you are unhappy with what you are doing, why shouldn’t you go after your dreams and take a stab at something that you are pretty sure you will love while getting paid for it?
