Don’t Wait Until You Have it All Figured Out to Start Your E-Book

If you are planning on writing an a nonfiction or fictional e-book then I have a question for you; why haven’t you started? It doesn’t take long to write an e-book, and I can tell you after writing 10 of them, I generally can finish one in about 72 hours, and then start editing. The longest it ever took me to write an e-book was five days, and it ended at 240 pages. But if you are still going to procrastinate starting your E-Book then let me give you a little bit of advice.

You need to just start writing, you don’t have to worry wait until you have perfectly controlled all the ideas, which you wish to cover in the book before you start. Not long ago, I read an interesting article, and I remember reading this quote; “You do not need it all in your head before you start,” says Lisa Sherin in a recent article at Writer’s Digest. Lisa is a great author in her own right, and she was mostly speaking to fictional works, but as I thought more about what she was describing, and I realized the same thing happens to people who write nonfiction e-books.

In fact, I remember struggling with this very issue myself; putting off until tomorrow what I should have done that day, and that was to start. All you really need to do to start an e-book is take a 3 x 5 index card or perhaps, five of them. And write the chapter headings that you wish to describe, one at the top of the card, and four or five lines of sub-chapters that you think are necessary. And then open Word files for each of the sub-chapters, and write a paragraph about each, and then close the files. See, you’ve already started.

Then each day complete one of the sub-chapters. Then put it all together create your table of contents from your 3 x 5 index cards, write an introduction make a title page, and start listing all your references in the back. All the rest is just editing. It’s not that difficult, you just have to start. So start today. Do it, turn off your computer, go get some 3 x 5 index cards, and do exactly what I just mentioned. And then go ahead and e-mail me for any additional tips you might think you need. Please consider all this.
