Back on Track with Self-Coaching

How to Mastermind your Destiny through Self-Coaching

by: Michaela Scherr

Reading how to books and self-coaching is an excellent way of getting to know yourself, quietly receiving answers you need, or resolving a secret issue you’ve been stuck on. Not only that, the only challenge will come from you and the only thing standing in the way of your personal development will be you!

I’ve had many ‘aha’ and self-congratulatory moments through coaching myself using self development workbooks. I refer to this as ‘Self-Coaching’.

Self-Coaching yourself in this way is great if you’re:

1. Shy;

2. Too busy for one-on-one coaching;

3. Someone who doesn’t like to go out much;

4. Trying to keep limiting beliefs to yourself;

5. Not ready to be coached by anyone else; and

6. Working on your own personal development without anyone else knowing – that way no-one will be disappointed if you give it up or mess it up.

However to get the most out of this form of coaching you’ll need to be:

1. Committed to creating the change you want;

2. Disciplined;

3. Willing to do whatever it takes to develop yourself, eg spiritual development courses, up-skilling, coaching etc;

4. Aware of when you need outside help.

Please Note: From experience, self-coaching will not be enough if there are deeper issues needing to be resolved; and

5. The driver behind the wheel of change – it’s your life; you’re in charge of your destiny.

Self-coaching can help (depending on the severity of the issue) find strategies to apply to:

1. A relationship break-up or make-up;

2. Work related issues;

3. Indecision – something you’ve always dreamed of doing is forever being pushed aside and you need to make a decision;

4. House move – do I stay or do I leave?

5. Itchy feet and wanting to explore and experience a new lifestyle; and

6. Money problems.

A powerful step towards changing what you no longer want into something you really want is by remembering and experiencing what you’d like to change. Then, as you close the door of the past behind you, aim for and take action to making it happen.

Start by goal-setting the what, why, how of transformation, and when you want it to happen by.

A few more tips if you’re coaching yourself are:

1. Keep a diary or journal and write in it every day of how you worked towards achieving inner change. You’ll be able to look back and reflect upon your journey, how you did it, the frustrations, obstacles, and triumphs. It will also give you a sense of achievement, after all you did it.

2. Become aware of how you do things and ask yourself “if you could do this in a better way, how would you do it?”

3. As you coach yourself, at the end of every week summarise what you’ve written and determine what changes you can make easily for the following week.

4. Learn to meditate to give you inner peace as well as clarity not only whilst working with your situation but also to give yourself another self-help tool for your ‘life skill toolkit’.

5. Take up a spiritual development course and increase your intuition. People use their intuition practically every day without realising it, increasing your intuition can help in all areas of your life.

6. Inform everyone who needs to know that you’ll be offline for however long your self coaching sessions will be. Once you’ve organised your time, be ruthless and stick to your timetable. Failing to do this will result in a nasty thing called procrastination to hold you captive!

7. Make a special note of any limiting beliefs you discover about yourself. For example, maybe you have a hang up around earning an income, or maybe you’re not as confident as you like to believe you are. In this case if you are unable to find solutions to these beliefs it’s time to call upon the services of a transformational coach or other professional (this applies to anything you’re unable to effectively work through).

The success of any ‘Self-Coaching’ program is dependent on two things:

1. Your level of commitment; and

2. The quality and content of the workbook itself. It must be designed and developed by someone with coaching experience, an understanding of adult learning principles and the ability to encapsulate it all in ‘simple speak’.

Self-coaching has been an excellent ‘self-help’ tool for me over the years; however it doesn’t replace one-on-one transformational coaching and nor should it.

How Should We Learn?

by: Kelvin Ho

Have you ever wondered how we learn? Why are some people able to achieve tremendous success while others receive mediocre results although both groups receive the same learning materials? Was it because these successful people are smarter or more talented than the rest of us?

Well, the answer to the last question is NO! Some of us lamented that the lucky ones just have better brains than the rest of us. But do you know that all of us basically have the same type of brain? Our brain is made of billions of neurons or brain cells. Although very small, each neuron has the processing power equivalent to a personal computer. The storage capacity of one neuron is unbelievable. Each one contains the entire genetic blueprint necessary to recreate another human being like us. A bee that can build a beehive, collect nectar, communicate with others, attract mates and reproduce has only seven thousand neurons. This shows that we have tremendous brain power in comparison. So it is not our inherent ability that prevented us from achieving success. Rather, it is the Learning Strategies that are used by each and every one of us that set us apart.

So what are these Learning Strategies that can help us achieve the success enjoyed by the top 5-10% of our population? Well, below are the 7 basic steps that you should apply every time you plan to learn something.

Step 1: Get Into The Right Mindset And Beliefs

To succeed in your learning, you must have the right mindset and beliefs. Without the right mindset, you will never succeed no matter what strategies you use.

What is the right mindset? Well, it is the frame of mind that makes you WANT to succeed. In fact, it is a MUST for you to succeed and you are willing to do whatever it takes to succeed. Unfortunately, this is not true for most people. They simply would like to succeed or think they should succeed. Having this incorrect frame of mind makes these people willing to accept mediocre results in their lives again and again.

Step 2: Set Out Your Goals

Make sure you know the purpose of why you learning this stuff. Set very specific and clear goals on the results you want to achieve. This is crucial as the goals you set will determine the action you choose to take. Goals direct our choices and actions.

Without goals, you will have nothing to focus on and you will just be swept by the waves of life. You will move in all directions and go nowhere. Is this what you want?

Step 3: Come Up With Your Plan

Set up a schedule so that you will know what to do and when to do. This serves as a checklist to ensure that you stay on your path to success. It also helps to plan and manage your time better so stick with it.

I will talk more about time management in another article.

Step 4: Take Consistent Action

Having all the wonderful plans will amount to nothing if no action is taken. Make it a point to take consistent action everyday and follow through diligently.

A way to help you get started with your plan is to have a 48 or 72 hour action plan. This is a plan to be carried out within the next 2-3 days. If you execute this simple action plan, it will give you the push in the right direction and help you to get started (a very important part of your plan).

Step 5: Speed Reading

Most likely to learn something new, you need to read relevant reading materials for information. Speed reading does not mean reading fast without comprehension. In fact, it is meant to help you get as much information while retaining or improving your understanding of the topic on hand.

Speed reading is a skill on its own and I will go into details in my future articles. What you need to note is that not all the words in your reading materials are important. Look out for key words (usually about 20% of the whole material) that will aid your understanding of the topic. This will help you gain your knowledge and improve your understanding within a short span of time.

Step 6: Note Taking and Memory

To help you internalize the information you have learnt, you may find it useful to re-organize the information in a way that makes sense to you. Using graphic organizers such as Mind Maps and such help to save time and unleash your mind power.

You will also probably need to absorb some of this information into your memory. This can help you to use this new information on a higher level of thinking. Simple ways to do this include association and linking of information.

If anyone is keen, let me know and I will write articles on them in the future.

Step 7: Application

Unless you can apply your new knowledge to your area of interest, you will probably not do very well. As such you need to master the art of application.

This requires you to develop a core of thinking skills such as creative, analytical and critical thinking. You have to be aware of your thoughts and be able to ask good questions about what you learn. Understand the assumptions that are made and where the evidences are collected from are some examples of such questions.

Conclusion

Put these 7 steps together in your learning and I am sure that your learning will be more fruitful and relevant. I wish you all the best in your journey and hope to hear your success story soon.

Comprehend, Believe, Apply

A way to Get Better Results From Your Self Improvement Efforts

by: Amie Erickson

Reading a book is additionally self improvement and private development or to be more precise, reading the book alone is not very much self improvement, however reading the book, and applying what you learn is. To illustrate my point lets talk concerning one thing very generic, if you browse a book on lets say programming a webpage, it will perhaps help you perceive how the programmer makes the net-pages, but the particular page you would like to make, can not exist before you start programming it.

And equally the development of yourself will not occur just from reading a lot of books, but by applying what you learn in those books it will!

A massive variety of folks browse a ton of self improvement books, or even I should say a lot of beginnings of self improvement books, however not that several actually finish the books, and even fewer start applying the concepts or exercises they are presented with in the books. Whereas they’ll like the book and the suggestions in it, most folks have a brief attention span, and before they get around to applying the new information, their eyes gets caught by another nice book, or one thing entirely totally different, and that they quickly move on while not getting any extremely life altering edges from it.

The secret behind good self improvement and personal development is that when you discover something you think might benefit you, you look additional into the topic, either by buying and reading a book regarding it, or finding data on the topic elsewhere, and at last applying the data in your own life and thereby making the enhancements you desire.

Remember it’s continually smart to learn new things from reading a sensible book on the topic, but the knowledge has got to be put to smart use if you really wish to learn from it.

Even Faster Self Improvement Is Doable

If you have got interest in speeding up your self improvement even any, maybe you must consider looking into self hypnosis or meditation. Meditation is good for the soul and helps making an inner calm, while self hypnosis could be a very useful tool for implementing changes in your behaviour.

So as to urge any advantages from either of these methods you will have to be consistent in using and or applying them in your life. Regular use of meditation or self hypnosis will strengthen what ever have gone before it so to speak. Really it’s like with each new thing, in the start it’s not so straightforward, and it takes some effort both to apply it, and to remain with the programme, but eventually it more or less becomes automatic or second nature to you, and that’s when you may start to really notice the benefits.

If you are interested in learning meditation I’d suggest you seek for a private teacher, as you’ll be enjoying around with the powers of your own psyche and as you immerse deeper into the techniques you may be stirring up recent emotions that can be difficult to tackle on your own.

A trained meditation teacher can bear in mind that this stuff happen beforehand, and is equipped to handle the emotions and make a case for to you the way to deal with them.

On the other hand if you want to learn self hypnosis for self improvement you could simply make sensible progress from the home study course I suggest at my website. Truly self improvement by self hypnosis may be a very powerful tool, and if you have got access to 1, I suggest you put it to smart use, remember though, shopping for, and reading the material isn’t enough, you want to apply the knowledge too.

Do You Have A Role Model?

Self-Development Skills: 3 Helpful Tips To Enhance Your Self – Development Skills

by: Michael Lee

We are all equipped with self-development skills. The only difference is that not all of us choose to make the most of them, which is actually very unfortunate.

The moment you start thinking that you’re the best is the moment when somebody else steals the crown from you. Why? Because that person continually updates himself or herself. It’s only a matter of time before he or she surpasses you.

Obviously, self-development skills are very important and play a large role in human evolution. Without them, how do you expect to survive? Here are some self-help tips to guide you:

Self-Help Tip # 1: Keep on Reading.

Self-development skills rely heavily on knowledge. That’s why it’s very important to read a lot. Read a book, read today’s paper or even the blog you currently favor. Reading not only updates you on what’s new and what’s out there, it also exercises your mind.

Watching television has its perks but reading helps you absorb material better. Besides, reading is unequivocally related to other branches of learning as well. Reading helps your imagination, and improves your writing and even your social skills.

Self-Help Tip # 2: Follow in their Footsteps.

Improving self-development skills is easier when you have a role model. Role models are your constant reminder that it is possible and that it can be done. They are the very manifestation of what you want to accomplish.

If your goal is to improve your public speaking skills, for example, there’s no shortage of public figures who have conquered setbacks like dyslexia or stage fright. Having a role model also helps out map out what actions to take and what mistakes to avoid.

Self-Help Tip # 3: Take Time Out.

Your self-development skills are not going anywhere, so don’t be afraid to take a little time out once in a while. Use this time to reflect on where you are now, where you are going and how your journey is going so far.

Reflection helps you assess yourself and come up with better ways to improve yourself in the future. A lot of people have also taken up the art of meditation in order to improve their self-development skills. Not only is it a good stress reliever, it also helps you see yourself more clearly.

Cultivating self-development skills is very important. However, it is also crucial to note than no man is an island and that there are some things you can’t do alone. For all your self-development skills, you also need to learn how to ask other people for help when you need it.

Dramatically Improve Reading Speed

Top Strategies To Skyrocket Your Speed Reading Skills!

by: Joe Okoro

Are there uncommon strategies needed to improve ones speed reading skills? What does speed reading achieve at the end of the day and why do people speed read? One surefire way to make sure you develop a speed reading habit is by affirming to yourself that you need to speed read. You tell yourself and you do all it takes to accomplish that need. Speed reading is a skill that you can actually master, only if you know how to. The solution lies in the strategies you use to accomplish this skill.

The first step is to acknowledge your need to speed read. Then tell yourself that your are willing to take the necessary steps to accomplish this task. Those steps will require you to continuously practice till you perfect your reading skills. Now we are starting speed reading, but before we commence, we want to ask this question?

How does my present reading speed fare when compared to speed readers’ speed? To answer that question you will need to know your level of understanding when you read, and at what rate are you able to complete a reading exercise. We are continuing with our speed reading exercise to test you now, are you ready? Let’s go:

Exercise: Read this whole article that you are reading now and time yourself.

Once you are done, you will need to prepare a chart called a progress report. In it you will have the title of your reading. Then you want to include all the statistics about your speed reading skills in the body of the chart. This progress chart will help you to gradually develop your reading skill as you practice and practice over time. This chart will also make you see a need for you to improve as you progress in your speed reading.

T(seconds)/ Words(Minutes) / Understanding

Speed reading result number 1=

Speed reading result number 2=

As you read, try to record your observations in the following ways: Under the first result, record the time it took you to complete reading this article. This will help you see how long it takes you to complete an article and will also give you motivation to read at a faster rate.

If you want to know how many words per minute it take you to read, then you will have to carefully count all the words in this article. Once done, you will divide the total number of words by the time it took you to conclude reading this article. For instance. Let’s say the total words in this article is 800 words and it took you 3 minutes and 20 seconds to complete reading it. Below is the mathematical representations:

Time = 3×60 + 20 = 200 seconds

Words = 800

Words/Time = 800/200 = 4 words per second

or 4×60 = 240 words per minute.

By keeping a record like this, you find out that it takes you about One second to read four words or 240 words per minute. You can increase your speed by practice and increase to 10 words per second or more than that.

Now that is all about the rate of your reading, let’s move on to the second aspect of speed reading your comprehension level. Comprehension is your ability to fully grasp the meaning of any speed reading activity. We are going to test your level of understanding of this article. Do not feel bad even if you don’t get the answers right, it is just an exercise to practice with.

1. How can i start reading fast?

3. What is the next step once i have started?
