They say there are two different kinds of people, those who have read Lord Of The Rings and those who are going to read Lord Of The Rings! For those of you who have been living in a cave or on another planet then Lord Of The Rings is possibly one of the greatest books (it’s actually a trilogy) of all time and definitely one of the top fantasy books!

The book was written way back in the 1950’s by J.R.R Tolkien and are still as relevant today as they were 60 years ago. It was said that Tolkien came up with the idea for the books when sat in his back garden over-looking the hills he imagined different races going to war with each other and having amazing battles between good and evil. It was this point that Middle-Earth was created in Tolkien‘s mind and he started writing a trilogy which would become one of the top fantasy books of all time!

The story itself is basically one of good and evil, on one side you have the fellowship which include Hobbit‘s, Wizards, Elf’s, Warriors and Dwarfs and on the other side you have evil Wizards, Orcs and other creatures such as the Balrog and for those who are scared of spiders….well…we wont even go into that.

To try and condense the story down into just a few paragraphs is really doing these books no justice at all but for the sake of you who have missed out so far on such a great read i’ll do my best without spoiling the story.

One day a Hobbit or Half-ling as they are known throughout Middle-Earth called Frodo takes possession of a powerful ring, this ring has a very powerful history and is wanted badly by the evil Sauron. It becomes his mission along with a group of companions to make sure that Sauron never takes possession of this ring or Middle-Earth will be taken over by the evil that is Mordor.

The book goes into fantastic detail about Middle-Earth and all its races, tribes and armies along the way. If you have seen the movies that many of you most likely will have, then you have basically seen the watered down version, dont for one minute think it’s a waste of time reading them as the book takes you to places that the movie simply can’t and ultimately didn’t! If you are soon to be browsing the internet or shop for your next read, make sure it’s Lord Of The Rings, probably one of the top fantasy books of all time!
